Providing fresh perspectives to the
Healthy Hall Community Assessment were nine focus groups made of up
diverse participants from across Hall County. Collectively participants
in these groups represent senior citizens and youth, Black, Latino and
white perspectives, affluent and poor, rural residents and urban,
professional and blue collar, newcomers and long-term residents.
The focus groups included:
- The Hall County Human Services Council
Consisting of leaders of community service organizations and
social service agencies.
Senior Center Members
Consisting of older men and women who participate in activities
at the Hall County senior center.
Sunshine Ladies
A women’s service and social organization that also meets at the
senior center.
Youth Leadership Hall
High school students
who are participating in a Chamber of Commerce leadership program.
School Counselors & Nurses
Guidance counselors,
family counselors and nurses employed by the Hall County Board of
Education.
Hispanic Committee of
Gainesville/Hall County, Inc.
A group of
community leaders and business professionals who advocate for the
Latino community in Hall County.
ESOL Class Members
A group of immigrant
residents who are learning English at the Adult Education Center.
Antioch Baptist Church Laymen
Participants in a Saturday
morning men’s fellowship at Antioch Baptist.
South Hall Residents
A group of residents from
the fast-growing South Hall area recruited at random by Stiles
Healthcare Strategy.
All groups were facilitated by Bill Stiles, president of Stiles
Healthcare Strategy, Inc., who also wrote the following analysis. This
report is based on extensive notes and review of audio recordings made
from each session.
